It was the last and final night of Joe's last lecture series. He asked us to pray a prayer that was so simple yet so difficult. We went into the church and prayed in front of Jesus in the Monstrance. We had some beautiful music being played by a few of our teens and it was beautiful. The prayer Joe asked the teens and adults to pray was this simple prayer "
I want to see". I want to see like you see Lord. But let's look into that. What does that really mean?
I want to see. I want to see like you see Lord. In order to say that prayer and to REALLY mean it, you have to change the way you view yourself and the world.
God made us individually in his eye. He made the perfect you and the perfect me. He made us the way he wants us and we are
beautiful. In order to see like the Lord sees we have to believe that we ARE beautiful and that we are exactly the way God wants and and we don't have to change for Him to love us.
Secondly, we have to see the beauty in others, especially those who have the most impact on you. Take for example our mothers. I know at least my mama has to be
superwoman. She takes care of my sister and I even though we are about to be seniors in college, she takes care of my dad, she takes care of my dogs every day while my dad is at work. She cooks, she cleans, she does everything, and how she does it all in one day I have no idea! When we were younger she would drive us to swim practice and basketball practice and piano practice and anywhere else we needed or wanted to go. And I know she's not the only mom out there who does that for their children and families.
But how many times do we really say hey mom I
appreciate what you do? And on the other hand how many times do we yell at our mama's and say those three most hurtful words?
I hate you. I know I am guilty of it. But in order to see how God sees we have to see the beauty in all the people around us. We have to stop saying I hate you and begin saying thank you, I love you, you are beautiful. We must see the beauty in those we care about and those who are closest to us, but also those who we don't know. Those who don't like us, or the ones who gossip and those who hurt us. We have to
stop being the ones to gossip, the ones to
stop wanting and obsessing over material things and things that don't mean that much to us. We have to appreciate the simple beauty around us. Once we truly appreciate the beauty in those around us, we are one step closer to seeing as God sees.
The beauty and love in ourselves and others is all part of a bigger and deeper picture, which can be described in one haunting yet very true phrase.
Beauty will save the world. B
eauty will save the world. Think about that. If we start to see beauty in ourselves and others, and EVERYONE in the world sees the same thing, the world will be saved. If you take the challenge to say
I want to see and you begin to see like God see's then that's one step closer to beauty saving the world.
I challenge the teens, adults, and anyone else who reads this religious or not, to start to try to see the beauty in yourself because you are beautiful. Remove yourself from those people who tell you, you aren't, because
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Start to see the beauty in the people around you. Start small, and slowly you might see your view of the world shift. You may truly begin to see.
You are beautiful.
God Bless,
Lyndsey
